‘The Messenger of Peace’ is a new movie project from a Dubai-based producer and the film is said to be looking to depict the early years of the Islamic religion. Production is scheduled to start next year, but first the producers need to raise $131m.
Executive producer Hajja Subhia Abu Elheja, who is also a major investor in the film, said: “This project will bring good to the world and is also a fantastic investment opportunity which will bring Sharia-compliant attractive returns.” The movie is a remake of a film released in 1977, The Message, (pictured, above) which starred Anthony Quinn as the prophet’s relative Hamza.
That film was financed by President Ghaddafi of Libya. The film’s producers have appointed a couple of banks to help raise the cash, and also appointed Dar Al Sharia Legal and Financial Consultancy, the specialist Sharia consulting arm of Dubai Islamic Bank in order to ensure that the film is in keeping with the religion of Islam and portrays the early history of the religion with utmost authenticity and credibility.
Oscar Zoghbi, producer, explained that he was looking to film key passages in the holy cities of Medina and Mecca, and added: “We are looking at selecting a limited number of best of breed potential co-investors who believe in the noble objectives of the film besides our investment case.
“The core objective is to not only tap into a market of 1.5 billion Muslims eager to experience a powerful and successful film conveying the true values of their religion but also a global market of non-Muslims.” © Rapid TV News 2008
